Plans don't just change. Sometimes two people remember the same plan differently. Today you will learn how to check details before a small misunderstanding becomes a big problem.
Today I can confirm a plan, check details and fix a misunderstanding before we meet.
1Do It First — Rescue the Plan
No notes first. Show me what survived from Lesson 6.
Original plan
Thursday · dinner · 6:30 PM
Your meeting now finishes at 7:00.
Partner
You can meet on Thursday, but you need to leave by 8:30.
Find a new time together.
2-minute challenge: explain the problem → suggest an option → check it → decide.
Something came up.I can’t make it at...Could we move it to...?Does ___ work for you? That works for me.
4 minutes maximum. This is diagnostic retrieval, not Lesson 6 again. Give them two minutes before support. If they can solve it, praise the language and move. If they struggle, reveal the bank and let them finish — no grammar explanation here. Lesson 6 showed comprehension but the independent Main Task was lost to technical problems, so this gives that missing evidence without consuming the lesson.
2Message Mismatch
Two people think they have the same plan. Do they?
MESSAGE
“See you Thursday at 7:00!”
“Let’s meet at Central Kitchen.”
CALENDAR
Friday · 7:15 PM
Central Café · dinner
DAY
What needs checking?
TIME
What needs checking?
PLACE
What needs checking?
3 minutes. Let them generate language. Do not teach the four new chunks yet. The purpose is to create a communicative need for confirmation and clarification.
3Listening — Which Plan Is Real?
The speakers correct several details. Track what changes and what becomes final.
Ready.
Listen 1 · No notes
What is the main problem?
They still want to meet. They need to correct the day, time and place and confirm the activity.
Listen 2 · Keywords only
Track the corrections. Normal speed again before using Slow.
FIRST MEMORY
Day: _____
Time: _____
WHY IT CHANGED
Thursday was difficult because of _____.
FINAL PLAN
Day/time: _____
Place: _____
Activity: _____
One extra detail: Sophie needs to leave around _____.
First memory: Thursday at 7:00. Reason: work. Final: Friday at 7:15 · Central Kitchen · dinner. Extra: Sophie needs to leave around 8:45.
Listen 3 · Meaning + inference
1. Sophie says, “We did at first...” What does at first tell us?
2.“I mixed up the names.” means:
3. Which detail is not part of the final plan?
Mia: Hey, Sophie — quick check. Are we still on for dinner on Thursday? Sophie: Thursday? I have Friday at seven fifteen in my calendar. Mia: Really? I thought we said Thursday at seven. Sophie: We did at first, but then you texted me saying Thursday was difficult because of work. Mia: Oh, right. I remember now. Just to confirm, Friday at seven fifteen, right? Sophie: Yes. And Central Café? Mia: Wait — did you mean Central Café or Central Kitchen? I meant the place across from the station. Sophie: Ah, Central Kitchen. I mixed up the names. Mia: Okay. And are we still getting dinner, or did we change it to coffee? Sophie: Dinner. I finish at six thirty, so I can make it by seven fifteen. I just need to leave around eight forty-five. Mia: That works for me. So Friday, seven fifteen, Central Kitchen, dinner. Sophie: Exactly. And if anything comes up, I’ll text you. Mia: Perfect. See you then.
10–11 minutes. This listening is deliberately denser than Lesson 6: Thursday/Friday, 7:00/7:15/6:30/8:45, Café/Kitchen, coffee/dinner, plus two accents and natural repair language. The challenge comes from tracking competing information — not from adding lots of new vocabulary. Listen 1 and Listen 2 should be Normal. Slow is a repair tool only after an attempt. Connection rule: troubleshoot shared audio for 2 minutes maximum; then students use the link locally or you read the dialogue. Protect the Main Task.
4Notice & Rebuild
Do not memorize isolated words. Rebuild four complete moves people use to repair a plan.
Swap one detail: Saturday at 11:40 · Central Kitchen
Clarify two options
Cue: mean / Café / Kitchen?
Did you mean Central Café or Central Kitchen?
Swap one detail: Tuesday or Thursday · 11:30 or 11:40
Different memory
Cue: thought / said / Thursday
I thought we said Thursday.
Swap one detail: seven · Central Café · dinner
6 minutes. Lexical sequence: cue → retrieval → reveal → hear → one variation. Avoid turning this into four mini grammar explanations. If a form question appears, answer in under ~45 seconds and return to the whole chunk.
5Sound Check
Two contrasts taken directly from the previous lesson.
DAY
Tuesday ↔ Thursday
Listen for the whole beginning of the word. Do not guess from the final -day.
TIME
11:30 ↔ 11:40
Hold the final number word in your attention: thirty or forty?
Quick discrimination: eyes off the text. Teacher plays A or B → students identify it → repeat the exact item once.
3 minutes maximum. This is diagnostic recycling from Lesson 6, where Thursday was recalled as Tuesday and 11:30 as 11:40. No phonetics lecture.
6Question Detective — Missing Details
You have different pieces of the same plan. Do not show your card. Find the missing information by asking each other questions.
ENGLISH-ONLY MISSION If you get stuck, do not switch to Portuguese. Use a rescue phrase and keep going.
Private · Student A
Your notes

You are not sure
You remember hearing 11:30, but you may be wrong.

ACTIVITY: brunch
You are not sure
You remember the name River Kitchen, but you may be mixing it up.

Ask for the missing details. Clarify the place. End by confirming the complete plan.
What day did we say? What time did we agree on?Which place did we choose?Did you mean ___ or ___?Just to confirm, ___, right?Sorry, I didn’t catch that. Could you repeat?Give me a second.Could you say that another way?
Ask
Each student asks at least 2 real questions.
Clarify
Use at least 1 either/or question.
Confirm
Finish with the complete plan.
5 minutes. This replaces the old Fast Clarify because it creates genuine information gap and much more student talk. Do not model their exact questions first. Reveal support only if they stall. Final answer: Saturday · 11:40 · River Café · brunch. Separate sendable Student A/B cards are provided with the lesson files.
⏱ HARD STOP: minute 32 → Main Task. If this activity is unfinished, stop it. The Main Task is protected.
7Main Task — Mixed-Up Plans
You both think you know the plan. You are both partly wrong.
Your mission: without showing your card, identify the mismatches, negotiate a workable plan, handle one new problem and finish with a clear confirmation.
ENGLISH ONLY Do not read your whole card aloud. Ask one question at a time. If you get stuck, use the support bank — not Portuguese.

Are we still on for...?Just to confirm, ... right?Did you mean ... or ...?I thought we said...Sorry, I didn’t catch that.Could you repeat?Something came up.Could we move it to...?Does ___ work for you?
09:00
13–14 minutes total, including reading the cards. Start the 9-minute timer. With about 4 minutes left, reveal one Secret Update and continue the same task. Do not interrupt to correct grammar unless communication breaks. Note emergent language for your Notion feedback area. If one student is absent, you take the other role and still reveal the update.
8Report + Exit Retrieval
Tell me what happened
What did Student A think?
What did Student B think?
What changed?
What did you finally decide?
Useful: At first... · We realized that... · Then... · In the end...
No notes
Check an existing plan → Are we still __________?
Repeat a detail carefully → Just to __________, ... right?
Choose between two meanings → Did you __________ X or Y?
Your memory is different → I __________ we said...
on for · confirm · mean · thought
3–4 minutes. Report first, then exit retrieval. Detailed correction belongs in your existing Notion feedback area, not in this lesson page.
⭐ If You Finish Early — Extra Games
Use these only after the Main Task and report. They are insurance against an unusually fast lesson — never a reason to delay the Main Task.
GAME 1 · Memory Glitch · 5 min
Look at a plan for 12 seconds. Hide it. Then compare it with a changed message and challenge the wrong detail.
Use: I thought we said... / Did you mean...? / Just to confirm...
GAME 2 · 5-Second Clarifier · 4–6 min
Draw a confusing message. One student has five seconds to ask a useful clarification question; the partner answers naturally.
Press the button.
No translation. No teacher modelling before the response.
These extras add roughly 9–11 minutes of meaningful output if the core lesson unexpectedly runs fast. Both recycle the same lexical families in new conditions rather than adding new language.
